Looking for a loving home for my dog. Unfortunately due to my new situation I feel I am unable to provide her the care and support she needs. Kiva is a wonderful dog but she has some previous trauma with humans so she does not trust many people and is very shy. She takes a while to warm up to anyone new. I am currently pregnant and with my partner working away and having to have the baby mostly on my own I don’t feel I can keep a rescue dog anymore.

 

About Kiva: 30-35lbs. blue eyes. black and cream with boots. excellent health history. no allergies.

Pros:

-Very affectionate and cuddly once she trusts you

-Listens well to commands

-Has great recall to the person she is bonded to

-Gets along great with all dogs

-Active loves to hike and go running but is also chill when you want to be

-Not yappy. Usually quiet

-Crate trained loves her crate

-Likes kids so far but wouldnt do great living with them

-Does great off leash

-Went to a boarding school ($4,000) which worked well for socializing with dogs and somewhat for humans.

-Has a doggy daycare / boarding place in the Kootenays shes already comfortable at if you need to go on any vacations.

Cons:

-Not friendly/very afraid with most humans

-Does not do well with new people showing up at the house. Barks and growls and takes a while to calm down

-Takes  time to trust anyone and only bonds to a few people

-Does not let strangers pet her

-Might not do well in a household with children since that tends to be busier and more strangers coming and going

-Might be okay with cats but I am unsure

-Has nipped before when she felt threatened (not a hard bite just a fear nip) but only someone she didn’t know and because they scared her. Unprovoked she would never do anything.

-Barks at cars  / humans if they show up at your home ( if shes in her crate when people arrive and is let out after she is fine)

 

I feel awful rehoming her but with a baby on the way I am too overwhelmed. I know there is going to be so much commotion and so much family / friends constantly visiting me once the baby comes and I feel Kiva will be traumatized. I also wont have the time to give her enough attention anymore.

I am looking for a home:

Preferably with another dog since she thrives with other dogs around. Without a lot of commotion / strangers coming and going. Someone who likes to stay active and go for walks. A kind person with a gentle calm demeanour as she does better with calm people. People who are patient and willing to allow her time to warm up to them. Once she forms a bond shes an amazing dog and very obedient.

I will need to be part of the rehoming process and socialize you to Kiva so she can get to know you while feeling safe if you are interested in having her. I feel within a couple weeks of me helping out she would be comfortable enough to make the transition.

I have many toys and a crate for her I will donate everything with her if she finds the right home!
